Gold medals – a worthy goal in business or sport

Thanks to John Naber, Olympic Gold medalist, I was able to enjoy what he calls the “gold medal experience.” Yes, that is me in the picture, wearing his gold medal. Just holding it was quite an experience. It is much heavier than I had expected. Then, one of his associates offered to snap my picture with the medal around my neck. What an honor and inspiration! (I have even been inspired to make a few extra stops at the gym since the event!)

Since swimming his way to four golds and one silver medal at the Montreal Olympics in 1976, Naber has become a world-class corporate motivational coach, TV broadcaster, author and executive on various Olympic committees. He has inspired performance excellence and goal achievement at corporations around the world.

Naber likes to say, “Everyone thinks of Olympians as extraordinary people, but they are ordinary people with extraordinary goals who commit to reaching those goals.”

John and his team now help companies break down their goals, set a plan and go for the gold! It may sound like the same thing every other consulting company is doing, but it’s not. They offer a fully customizable success theme in a box. Everyone can remember a strongly themed initiative that helped their company achieve significant results. I also remember how much it costs to do this right. Getting the right theme that ties to you targets alone can take forever. Then, you have to design supporting collateral, launch announcements, multi-media support, measurement scorecards and hire talent for the big events. Finally, you are left to manage the contest throughout the performance improvement time period.

Naber saves his clients the trouble by offering an over-arching, universal theme – “Going for the Gold.” His experiences as an Olympian, broadcaster and motivational speaker all come together to give initiatives a theme that drives over-achievement. His relationships with other Olympic athletes allows him to specially create programs that have a lasting impact. For example, during the 2006 games in Torino, he asked Dan Jansen to take along a stack of postcards to sign and send to participants competing in a themed contest back in the U.S. Image how inspiring it must have been for them to receive a postcard from Jansen, postmarked in Italy, following the skater’s gold medal win and unexpected world record!

After years of working with hundreds of companies, the Going for the Gold Sales Improvement Plan is fully tested and can be customized in as little as 14 days. Because of the numerous successful implementations, you are able to choose from many turnkey communication vehicles including:

  • Keynote address for contest launch
  • E-mails with standings and motivating stories from Olympians from around the world
  • Customized messages in .wav or You Tube with guest Olympians
  • Conference call agendas and scripts
  • Personalized letters from Olympians
  • Olympic themed awards and contest mementos
  • Awards ceremonies

With the 2010 Winter Olympics upon us, the timing could not be better to consider working with Naber and Associates. If you are thinking about theming a performance-enhancing initiative or contest, be sure to get in touch with them.
